Culture Norms
We understand wrestling is not easy and comes with bumps and bruises literally. We try to build comradery and a fun environment among the wrestlers, coaches and parents. As it will take a village to help develop these young athletes into amazing wrestlers but more importantly amazing human beings. We take the approach that having fun and giving these youth an amazing experience is more important than wrestling itself. If we are successful in that we know the inner wrestler will come out and at that point look out. As a club we have a board which includes the high school coaches. We take the approach that the program is one singular piece and we can not be successful without each other. You will come to find out and see on this page that this program's mission is not complete once a wrestler is in high school, once they go to college etc.. This is a culture. This is a family. You will find that things come full circle. Youth grow, go to high school, graduate, go to college, graduate, come back to coach, have kids that join the program and it continues..... We look forward to working with your wrestler.
Parents please review these expectations with your wrestler. This club reserves the right to expel or otherwise bar (either permanently or temporarily) any offending individual and wrestler/parent etc. affiliated with the offending individual, from participating with the club and any of its activities if any of the below rules are violated.
Hygiene
Nails need to be cut regularly
Shower after practice and regularly
Wear deodorant
Wear clean clothes and do not use practice clothes multiple times without washing
Know your body. Check for weird or abnormal signs skin irritations. Communicate with parents and coaches.
Cuts or open wounds need to be covered
Any contagious rash or sores will require wrestlers be sat from practice and a doctors note for returning
Tournament Expectations
Shake your opponents hand both before and after match.
Shake the opponents coaches hand after match
Do not through a fit after a loss, throwing things, slapping mats etc.
You are representing your family, club and yourself do so with pride.
Wear assigned singlet/gear wear with pride its a culture.
Support your teammates.
During tournaments sometimes it will be Eaglecrest vs. Eaglecrest do not cheer for one individual you will see the coaches will not as well, be silent. At the end clap it up for both peers.
When on the mat you must have your singlet straps up at all times.
IF YOU ARE IN 8U AND UP THATS MEANS 7 PRIOR TO SEPT. 1ST WE EXPECT YOU TO COMPETE IN ATLEAST 75% OF TOURNAMENTS FOR THE SEASON
4U & 6U WE FEEL PRACTICE CAN BE ENOUGH FOR THEM BUT IF YOU WANT TO COMPETE WE ARE ALL FOR IT.
Practice expectations
Wrestlers will have wrestling shoes no outside shoes allowed on mat and no wrestling shoes off the mat
Wrestlers will wear shorts or sweats and a shirt or sweater
No clothing items with hard materials zippers, buttons etc.
No tank tops, muscle shirts, waffle shirts or cut offs.
Tops will be tucked in.
We do not sit on our butts in the room during practice either stand or take a knee
No talking while coach is talking
We do not say, "I can't." Take it out of your vocabulary.
No gum, candy or drinks besides water or sport drinks
At times coach will ask a task be completed. Like a cart wheel its not about knowing how to do it or being good at one it's about the effort try to complete the task.
Be on time and finish as a team.
Be a good partner and support your peers
Show respect to the coaches. All of our staff are volunteers and are taking the time to work with you for the love of the sport and helping young athletes.
No jumping, crawling or running up wall mats this can cause tearing.
Treat teammates with respect this is a wrestling family.
Parent Expectations
Practice Norms
4-10 year old practice all parents are expected to remain at practice.
4-10 year old's these early ages are not just learning to wrestle but to be coachable. Parents at times will be asked to support coaches with holding athlete accountable and in development.
We understand it takes a village, please communicate and work with your coach as a team so we can do what is best for the athlete.
Support the coaches, all of our staff are volunteers we are careful as a club who we allow to be around your wrestler we do not take for granted the trust/faith you have in us.
Tournament Norms
No talking to refs in any way, allow the coaches to back up your wrestler
Support your wrestler but refrain from bashing opponent. Example "He's Weak!" "Kick his ass!" Sounds silly but I have heard it all.
Joining this club you are now a representative of the club
Communicate with coaches, ask questions.
